Imbroglio Variations
Imbroglio Variations is a series of geometric print works and wallpaper collection that explores the relationship between order and improvisation, structure and play. Inspired by the perpetual calendar designs of Jean-Pierre Vitrac and informed by Leigh Bagley’s contemporary reinterpretation of Vitrac’s Imbroglio forms, the works investigate how a limited visual language can generate an expansive range of compositions and emotional responses. Vitrac’s original system of modular shapes and cyclical arrangements provided the conceptual framework from which these prints evolve, Bagley’s exploration of rhythm, transparency, colour, and architectural geometry offer a contemporary lens through which to reconsider these forms.
